JAZZ A & JAZZ A2

Poly’s Jazz A & Jazz A2 are the advanced level courses for students who have demonstrated exceptional all-around performance skills in previous Jazz classes at Poly. These groups serve as a vehicle for students to further develop skills and build on the concepts introduced in the previous courses. As the flagship Jazz ensembles for Poly, Jazz A and A2 members have numerous opportunities to perform at concerts and festivals throughout the state.

JAZZ B

Jazz B features students who have satisfactorily completed Poly’s Jazz C course. Members of this ensemble pursue the mastery of sophisticated jazz music in individual, small group and large settings. The ensemble also has the opportunities to perform at concerts on the Poly campus, as well as at off-campus community events and jazz festivals.

JAZZ C

Poly’s Jazz C is the “first tier” jazz course for all freshmen entering the Poly Jazz program. This class focuses on the basics of jazz improvisation, music theory and jazz history in addition to solo, combo and full big-band ensemble performance technique. This class performs at concerts on the Poly campus as well as off-campus jazz festivals.
